The Fast and the Furious is finally getting a big budget video game tie-in, with Slightly Mad Studios working with Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez.
The final surprise game premiere at The Game Awards was something fans have been asking after for years: a proper Fast & Furious game.
There’s been various low-budget tie-ins over the years, as well as things like DLC for Forza Horizon, but never anything with any real effort behind it – or the franchise’s biggest stars.
But both Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez were at The Game Awards and you can see their likeness, and hear their voices, in the game.
Perhaps more importantly the developer is well-respected racing specialist Slightly Mad Studios, who have been behind the likes of Project Cars and Need For Speed: Shift.
As you’d expect, Crossroads isn’t exactly a serious simulation and there seemed to be plenty of weapon-based action as well, which isn’t something Slighty Mad are used to – but they seem to have everything in hand.
The game is being published by Bandai Namco and will be out on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in May next year.
Although, like any new game next year, you’ve also got to wonder whether it’ll end up being ported to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X as well.
As he finished his bit at The Game Awards, Vin Diesel (who is known to be an avid gamer) mentioned he’d just seen a four minute trailer for Fast & Furious 9, but whether he was joking or not he didn’t show any of it.
