Fast and Furious 9 to ‘take place in space’ and we’re already obsessed

Fast and Furious 9 is set to take place in space – and we’re already obsessed

Fast and Furious 9 is set to be out of this world in more ways than one – as the franchise is set to go into outer space.

F9 is set to land onto the big screen in April, 2021, after the release was pushed back one year.

Not content with racing on the streets of London, Rio, Havana and Miami, bosses are thought to have set their sights on the galaxy for the next adventure.

And we’re so on board.

After Ludacris – who plays Tej – previously suggested that ninth instalment could be going into space, Michelle Rodriguez appeared to confirm the plans.

When asked about the plans on Sirius XM, the Letty actress said: ‘Oh, no way. How did you guys find that out? See what happens?

‘People start talking behind the scenes, man. When a movie doesn’t come out and forget about it, things get out.

‘Nobody was supposed to know that!’

While Michelle didn’t let the exact storyline slip ahead of next year’s release, she did add that she wasn’t ’lucky enough’ to be one of the characters who left the earth’s atmosphere.

This isn’t the first time the cast has shed light on a potential space race for the gang, with Paul Walker’s brother Cody teasing the rumours in a chat with Metro.co.uk last year.

‘I think anything is possible and we’ll see what the future has in store,’ he told us. ‘There’s a rumour that the franchise might go to outer space next, so you never know…

‘Nothing is off the table, never say never.’

And Seth Rogen revealed the franchise had started the space conversation a decade ago.

Speaking on Twitter, the Hangover actor explained that himself and Evan Goldberg had a chat with a producer 10 years ago, where the topic of going into space was discussed.

‘About ten years ago, me and @evandgoldberg were with one of the producers of The Fast and Furious franchise,’ the Knocked Up star penned.

‘Evan said as a joke, “they should go to space!” The producer looked at us, dead serious, and said… “Not yet”. [sic].’

Dominic and co racing around the moon? We wouldn’t put it past them.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Universal for a comment.

Fast and Furious 9 will be released in cinemas on April 2, 2021.
