Farage arrives at meeting with Trump – Brexit Party leader seen at ambassador's residence


The Brexit Party leader was photograhed as he arrived at Winfield House, the home of ambassador Woody Johnson. Farage was seen arriving by car at the 12.5 acre estate. The residence is where Donald Trump is staying during his three-day state visit.

A Reuters photographer confirmed Mr Farage entered the residence  after Trump returned there following engagements and a news conference with Prime Minister Theresa May.

Mr trump’s stay at the property is seen as a break in tradition, with previous presidents staying at Buckingham Palace.

Donald trump and First Lady Melania Trump Talso stayed at Winfield House during their official visit to the UK in July 2018.

As he boarded Air Force One on Monday morning to fly to the UK, the firebrand Republican hinted he would make time to visit Boris Johnson and Mr Farage, who he aid were both “friends of mine”.

He said: “Well, I may. Nigel Farage is a friend of mine, Boris is a friend of mine.   

“They’re two very good guys, very interesting people. Nigel’s had a big victory. He’s picked up 32 percent of the vote starting from nothing.

“And I think they’re big powers over there, I think they’re doing a good job.” 

Speaking last weekend, President Trump said of Mr Farage: “I like Nigel a lot. He has a lot to offer. He is a very smart person. They won’t bring him in.

“Think how well they would do if they did. They just haven’t figured that out yet.

“I got to know him when he liked my campaign and he actually came to a speech and I met him. I think he is a terrific person. Really, a terrific person.”

Mr Trump has previously claimed the Brexit Party leader should play a role in the UK’s Brexit negotiations.

The Brexit Partty humiliated mainstream parties in the EU elections, securing around 30 percent of the UK vote and taking seats from key Tory and Labour constituencies.

Previous reports claimed Number 10 was paying “close attention” to Mr Trump’s acitivites and monitoring his encounters with “Brexiteers”, and potentially causing embarassment to Theresa May.

But a Downing Street spokesman said: “Who the President meets during his visit is of course a matter for him.”

The Brexit Party leader’s visit follows a busy day, in which Mr Trump held two meetings with Prime Minister Theresa May just days before she is due to stand down from office.

During a joint press conference, Mr Trump made his feelings clear on a range of issues including Brexit, Jeremy Corbyn and the London anti-Trump protests, of which he said he hadn’t seen.

He claimed to have turned down a meeting with the Labour leader and desribed him as a “somewhat negative force”.

He dismissed reports of thousands lining the streets of the capital as “fake news”.

Mr Trump is due to meet with leadership contender Michael Gove, despite claiming to not know who he was at the press conference.

He is also due to meet ladership contender Jeremy Hunt for one-on-one talks on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, leadrship favourite Boris Johnson declined an invitation to meet the president so as he didn’t miss a planned hustings.

The US ambassador’s mansion contains 35 rooms and is filled with antique furniture, prestigious artworks, chandeliers and has pristine gardens.

In fact, Winfield House has the second biggest private garden in London, after Buckingham Palace.

Nigel Farage was one of the first British politicians to meet the firebrand in New York, shortly after Mr Trump won the presidential elections in 2016.
