Reports are claiming Boyz n The Hood director John Singleton has died after suffering a major stroke on April 17.
US site Fox4 reported Singleton’s family had confirmed the 51-year-old’s death. But several publications later claimed Singleton’s publicist has confirmed he is still alive and reportedly on life support.
They said: “John is still in life support. That reporting is inaccurate.”
The reports come days after it was confirmed he had suffered a stroke and was in ICU. In a statement to People his family said: “On Wednesday, April 17th our beloved son/father, John Singleton, suffered a stroke while at the hospital. John is currently in the ICU and under great medical care.
“We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends and colleagues.”
According to TMZ Singleton checked himself in to hospital in Los Angeles after experiencing weakness in his legs on returning from Costa Rica.
Actors Taraji P. Henson and Tyrese Gibson last week visited Singleton in hospital, and urged fans to keep praying for his recovery.
Henson shared a picture of the trio alongside the words: “Visited you today. Me and @tyrese prayed so hard over you. You heard my voice and jumped up. I HAVE HOPE AND FAITH BECAUSE I KNOW THAT #GODIS. Keep praying EVERYBODY for our beloved @johnsingleton.”
Boyz n the Hood actor Jessie Lawrence Ferguson was found dead at his home, aged 77, on Sunday.
