In an interview with The Australian Women’s Weekly in 2018, Melissa said she had realised after leaving Sunrise in 2013 that she needed to make some lifestyle changes.

‘I have noticed that I need to be a little kinder to myself, to listen to how I feel more,’ she told the publication, adding that she’d recently lost ‘a few kilos’.

‘When I’m tired and running out of puff, I find I really need to be gentle, because I am all too aware I could fall over in a tired, messy heap and that won’t do anyone any good, especially me and my family.’
