Tributes have been paid to a man who was found dead in a relative’s garden after he was mauled to death by four dogs – including two XL bullies.

Nicholas Glass, 32, was found dead in Rubery, Birmingham, in the early hours of August 21 following the horrific attack.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Nicholas died from dog bites on Hereford Close.

Following the attack, two of the dogs were seized by police but the other two went missing for two days and were eventually found on grassland three miles away from the property.

His family has now paid a heartfelt tribute to him and said: ‘In Nicholas we’ve lost a loving son, brother and uncle who was adored by all of his family and friends.

‘He was kind hearted, caring and compassionate and he’d do anything for anyone.

‘We are devastated at his loss and we all miss him desperately.’

Neither of the XL Bully dogs had a certificate of exemption, a police force spokesperson confirmed.

Superintendent Sally Simpson said: ‘This is a really tragic incident, and the family of the man are being supported by officers.’

All four of the dogs remained in secure kennels, police added.

Officers were initially called to reports that a number of dogs were on the loose at the property where Nicholas was looking after the relative’s dogs.

Inspector Leanne Chapman, from the Dog Unit, said at the time: ‘We have officers liaising with vets and the local authority, and are using our drone capability to scour the wider area.

‘We really need to hear from anyone who has seen these dogs and it’s vital that if you see them, you don’t approach them but call 999 immediately.

‘Similarly, if you or someone you know has taken the dogs in after finding them loose, we need you to call us as soon as possible.’
