The series will feature eight online events and award a total of $50K. The first event will take place May 31, with 16 teams competing for a share of the prize pool.

The initial surge in interest was helped by an aggressive marketing push by EA, which paid top influencers like Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek to stream the game during the first days of release.

However, Apex Legends has not been able to sustain its strong start on multiple fronts. Twitch viewership steadily sank throughout March and has continued to fall in the time since, and a new report from Nielsen’s Database-Link-e1521645463907 market research firm SuperData estimates that Apex Legends earned $24M from in-game purchases in April—a 74% drop from February’s estimated tally of $92M.

EA plans to release Apex Legends on mobile, and will outline its future content plans for the game at its EA Play event in Los Angeles on June 8-9.
