Paramount Pictures are going to reboot action thriller Face/Off with a new cast, crew and script and we’re very excited.

Just when we thought our nineties nostalgia couldn’t get any stronger…

Directed by John Woo, the 1997 movie starred John Travolta as Sean Archer, an FBI agent who undergoes facial transplant surgery (man, the nineties was a wild time) in order to catch terrorist Castor Troy played by Nicolas Cage after he kills his son.

As reported in Deadline, Paramount Pictures are planning on rebooting the face-swapping film, although John and Nicolas sadly won’t be involved.

Oren Uziel, the man behind The Cloverfield Paradox and 22 Jump Street, will write the script for the remake of the cult classic, while Neal Moritz and David Permut are also coming on board behind the scenes.

Originally grossing nearly £200 million in the box office, the original Face/Off was actually one of the first films to ever be released on DVD. God, that really makes us feel old.

Movie reboots are big business in 2019, with remakes of Clueless and Home Alone currently among the classics being made again for a new generation. Honestly, what’s wrong with the old one?

Disney has been the biggest name to cash in on this trend, with new versions of Aladdin, The Lion King and The Jungle Book all dropping over the last couple of years and with The Little Mermaid filming soon.

While these projects are hugely lucrative, tapping into the market for nineties babies who may even have their own kids now (!), these projects have often debuted to mixed reviews from critics who see the films as blatant cash grabs.

Could Face/Off go the same way? We’ll have to wait and see.
