Fabio Fognini says he wishes BOMB would explode at Wimbledon in extraordinary rant

Fabio Fognini has stunned Wimbledon by saying he wished a BOMB would explode at the All England Club.

The Italian was frustrated as his match against American Tennys Sandgren was moved to Court 14 for a 12.30pm start on Saturday.

He lost the match in straight sets, 6-3 7-6 6-3, and launched into a shocking tirade during the fifth game of the second set.

The on-court microphones picked up Fognini saying: “Damn, English, really. Damned really.

“Wish a bomb would explode on this club. A bomb should explode here.”

The Italian was quick to apologise for his comment following the match.

He said:  “Most of the time when you’re on court, you’re frustrated. For sure I was not happy about my performance today because I was knowing I have a lot to win in this case, because I think I have a good chance to win.

“Something happened on court. If somebody feels offended, I say sorry. No problem.”

Fognini, 32, faces a potential fine for his antics – which would not be the first time he has been in hot water over his behaviour on court.

Fognini could be fined for the outburst

He was booted out of the 2017 US Open prior to his doubles match after being accused of shouting obscenities towards a female umpire during a singles game.

Fognini allegedly called the umpire Louise Engzell a ‘whore’ and a ‘c***sucker’ in Italian.

He was fined more than £70,000 in all and was hit with a suspended two-Grand Slam ban until 2020.

Wimbledon was targeted by the Nazis during World War II with five bombs being dropped on centre court in a single night in 1940.
