Fabio Cannavaro's honest view on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp amid links with Everton job

Fabio Cannavaro has previously praised Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp amid reports that he has been linked with taking the job with their bitter rivals Everton. The Italy World Cup winner is understood to have been interviewed by the Toffees’ hierarchy ahead of a potential appointment.

Everton are seeking a new manager after ending Rafa Benitez’s tumultuous reign after just six months.

The Spaniard oversaw a terrible run of form, reportedly fell out with key players and never won over the Goodison Park support.

That he was a former Liverpool boss and an iconic figure across Stanley Park at Anfield was only part of Benitez’s issues at Everton.

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is now conducting a search for a new boss.

According to the Telegraph, Cannavaro has been interviewed by Everton. Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is another contender.

And 48-year-old has previously praised potential rival Klopp, claiming that he likes the German’s ‘mentality’.

Speaking to Sky Sports News in 2020, Cannavaro – who was manager of Chinese club Guangzhou at the time – said of working in England: “I hope so. I watch every game in the Premier League and I like the ambience and culture of football in England.

“I am in China to try to improve my system and idea within football.

Having already taken in several managerial spells, Cannavaro would arrive at Goodison Park with plenty of experience.

The Naples-born coach has spent most of his post-playing career in China. He has twice managed Guangzhou, leaving for the second time in September last year.

There have also been spells the now defunct Tianjin Tianhai and the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.

He was briefly in charge of the China national team in 2019.
