The brawl began early in the first-half as Blades fans were quickly escorted out of the home end.

Stewards desperately fought for control as supporters launched punches at each other.

David McGoldrick had earlier scored twice for the Blades as the visitors took a 2-0 lead – much to Tigers fans’ annoyance.

Enda Stevens then made it 3-0 before half-time to rub salt into the wounds of Hull fans.

And powerless stewards could merely watch on and try to hold one or two fans back as hordes of others charged into the melee in the stands.

One fan even had his sunglasses knocked off his head as he approached the scrap in Hull.

As the brawl erupted one fan tweeted: “Sheffield fans in the home ends.

“You make it easy for this to happen by not having a ticket office and not making it affordable for families.

“Dangerous environment today, just admit you’re wrong and change it.”

The match was a massive one for visitors Sheffield United who are still battling for promotion to the Premier League.

And they received a huge boost going into the final 12 days of the campaign.

The Blades’ promotion rivals Leeds went down 2-0 at Brentford to leave them trailing Chris Wilder’s men by three points with just two games remaining.

And United also still have faint hopes of claiming the title as Championship leaders Norwich, three points ahead of the second-placed South Yorkshire high-fliers, could only draw at Stoke.
