F1 odds: Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes will be looking to dominate in Monza after Belgium disappointment

This weekend’s Formula One round in Italy will be celebrated for more than just the race itself.

It has been announced that F1 and the Automobile Club d’Italia has extended their contract to host races at the historic Monza for another five years.

The track has hosted more F1 Grand Prix than any other venue and this weekend looks set to be a spectacle.

Lewis Hamilton comes into the race with a 65-point lead over teammate Valtteri Bottas as the Mercedes team will be looking for their eighth 1 & 2 finish of the year.

The constructor championship leaders will be hoping to extend their 145-point lead over rivals Ferrari.

But Ferrari will be hoping to have home advantage as the Italian car giants hope to retain some winning form after Charles Leclerc’s win in Belgium last weekend.

Could Verstappen win it?

Can Verstappen get back on his feet and finish the weekend in style by getting a win at Monza?

The Belgian-Dutch racer – who is priced at 27/1 with thepools.com to win in Italy – had to retire last weekend at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps after suffering suspension damage and crashing into the barriers.

Apart from Belgium, he has finished in the top 5 throughout the season including two race wins and a second-place.

Verstappen crashed out at the start of the race in Belgium – can he win at Monza?

Who will get the fastest lap?

In the 12 years he has graced F1, Lewis Hamilton has achieved 43 fastest laps in his career with his last coming in this year’s British Grand Prix.

He will be looking for his 44th in an attempt to win the GP and get closer to winning his sixth World Championship.

He is 4/1 to be the fastest in the Italian Grand Prix with thepools.com .

Meanwhile Leclerc, even though this is only his second season in F1, has achieved just two fastest laps and both of them happened this season – Bahrain and Azerbaijan.

He failed to get the fastest lap in his win in the Belgian Grand Prix despite winning pole position.

He is backed more by thepools.com to be the fastest on Sunday with 7/2 odds with thepools.com .

Will Mercedes or Ferrari get a 1 & 2 finish?

It’s plausible. Both constructor teams will be looking for a strong finish in this race and have hogged the podium in many of the races.

Mercedes have more of a chance than Ferrari however.

Statistically, the constructor championship leaders have achieved seven 1 & 2 finishes this year out of 13 races so far. This run of form makes thepools.com odds of 8/1 to achieve a similar finish a very attractive option.

Meanwhile, Ferrari are 2/1 after Leclerc’s win in Belgium but they are against it in terms of form. Between Sebastian Vettel and Leclerc, they have five top 2 finishes between them and none have happened in any race.

If Ferrari achieve this on home soil, it will be the first time they have achieved a 1 & 2 finish since July 2017.
