F1 2019 Esports: Ferrari confirmed for 2019 season

Ferrari has long been a cornerstone for motorsport and especially Formula 1. In their long and storied history they have claimed more Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships than any other team, so their absence from the Esports world had been something of a black mark for the series. Not any more.

In a press release today it was confirmed that Ferrari will be competing in the 2019 F1 New Balance Esports Series.

“Now in its third season, Formula 1 is extremely excited to confirm that Ferrari along with Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, Alfa Romeo Racing, McLaren F1 Team, Rich Energy Haas F1 Team, Renault F1 Team, Red Bull Toro Rosso Honda, SportPesa Racing Point F1 Team and ROKiT Williams Racing will all be competing in the series through their esports teams, making this the biggest and most ambitious season yet.”

The news comes as a great step forward for the competition, which is set to be the biggest yet with an enormous prize fund of $500,000, more than double that of last year’s.

In Monday’s PS4 qualifier Fabio Dirocco, a newcomer to Esports with the pseudonym X_Fab_13X, claimed victory, while Tuesday’s hard-fought PC qualifier was won by CRG Sztiv and Wednesday’s Xbox race was claimed at a canter by CRG Simon.

Those that qualified around a wet Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Canada this week won a spot in the Pro Draft, which will take place on 16-17 July with each team picking at least one driver.

Day 1 of the Pro Draft will see a number of races to identify the best talent and eliminate the slowest of the field, while Day 2 will see the teams make their selections. The Pro Series is set to run over four live events between September and December 2019 with the drivers competing on F1 2019, which is scheduled for release on 28 June, 2019.
