Ex-Tottenham boss tells club they can’t sack Mauricio Pochettino – ‘He’s a great manager’

Tottenham shouldn’t fire Mauricio Pochettino during this season, instead, they need to look at their players to do more.

That’s the opinion of former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

Tottenham have had a dire start to the season, and find themselves 14th in the Premier League.

Despite having made it to the Champions League final last season, they have failed to carry that form into this campaign.

After 12 games, the Whites have won just three times, just once in their last seven outings.

Pochettino’s team are now 11 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, and 20 behind league leaders Liverpool.

Speculation is rife over Pochettino’s future, with suggestions claiming he could be fired before too long if results don’t pick up.

Jose Mourinho is said to be keeping an eye on the situation at the New Tottenham Stadium, ahead of potentially taking over.

But Redknapp dismissed suggestions that Pochettino should be fired, telling The Sun: “He’s a fantastic manager.

“You are only as good as your players and they need to pick up their form.

“It would not even come into the equation for me to get rid of him.

“It’s been a disappointing season so far for Spurs.

“I really thought they would be close to Manchester City and Liverpool and challenging.

“It’s difficult. The players haven’t hit the form they did last year.

“I’m a big fan of the manager and hopefully they can turn it around.”
