And it was back to reality for Steve Jacobs on Friday, as he returned to Sydney after a relaxing holiday in Vanuatu, where he owns a luxury villa.

The 53-year-old TV host looked glum as he strolled through the airport with his two daughters, Isabella, eight, and Francesca, six.

Steve’s departure from the Today show was announced in December.

He had been a fixture of the program on and off since 2005, and had spent much of 2019 as an in-studio weatherman.

While his exit came amid a staff reshuffle which also saw co-hosts Deborah Knight and Georgie Gardner moved on to other departments, Steve insisted it was his decision to leave.

Taking to Instagram after the news broke, he claimed the real reason he was leaving Nine was to spend more time with his daughters.

‘Sadly I can’t commit to the future travel requirements of the job and have to put my beautiful daughters first,’ he wrote.

‘They are my world, my life and my joy.’

He announced he was leaving the program in 2016 to ‘spend more time with his family’, but separated from his wife, Rosie Jacobs, within a year.

He returned as Weekend Today’s weather presenter in 2017, before filling in for Natalia Cooper on the weekday edition in 2018 when she went on maternity leave.

He would eventually leave the program later this year, alongside co-hosts Georgie and Deborah, sports presenter Tony Jones and newsreader Tom Steinfort.

He has been replaced by Tim Davies, who is now handling weather duties as part of the new-look Today show anchored by Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon.
