Ex-Man Utd star Rafael admits it will be "great" if Liverpool are denied title

Ex-Manchester United star Rafael admits it would be “great” if Liverpool are denied the Premier League title, despite sympathising it would be hard for them to take.

Liverpool are just two wins away from securing a first Premier League title this season, but there are serious question marks as to whether the campaign will be concluded.

The coronavirus pandemic has seen the 2019/20 season suspended indefinitely, and there is speculation the current campaign could be scrapped with all results expunged.

Rafael represented the Red Devils for seven years, making over 100 appearances for the Old Trafford club.

He recently took part in an MUTV Group Chat alongside other former United players, where he spoke out about the current predicament.

“Everybody’s talking about ‘stop the competition’, no? They don’t get to 20! It will be hard for them [if the Premier League is voided], great for us,” said Rafael.

“But that [winning the 19th title in 2011] was my best moment.”

Former professionals have been providing their own opinion on the situation in great numbers in recent months.

And it seems people are on both sides of the fence, with some calling for the season to be suspended, while others suggesting it should be extended.

Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov recently told Betfair: “People are suggesting to give the title to Liverpool, and honestly they deserve it the way they had been playing, nobody was going to catch them.

“With the way they play their games, the football they produced and how far they are in front, they fully deserve the title this season. It’s so strange, and it will be unfair on Liverpool if the season is voided, they will be so disappointed.”
