Evolution Championship Series (Evo), the year’s biggest tournament for numerous fighting games, led the way over the weekend with two channels that combined for more than 3.5M hours watched on Twitch.
Meanwhile, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins’ exodus from Twitch could benefit other top Fortnite streamers like Turner “Tfue” Tenney.
The following channels are ranked according to the total number of hours watched on Twitch from Monday to the following Sunday, with data compiled using TEO Access.
Fighting Words
The Evo fighting game championships at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas this weekend had two top 10 channels that combined for a total of more than 3.7M hours watched on Twitch.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate led all other fighting games on the main Evo channel with an average of 206K CCV, peaking at 233K. Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V were the second and third most-watched averaging 167K and 124K CCV respectively. Only Tekken 7 and Super Smash Bros. accumulated more than 500K hours watched or reached a peak of more than 200K.
Not Over Watching
The fourth and final stage of the Overwatch League is in full swing, and viewership of the league on its main channel is still strong enough to make it Twitch’s most-watched channel.
Last year, the league’s season was much more condensed with stage four beginning in May. However, the league didn’t manage to eclipse 3M hours watched on its main English-language Twitch channel at any point during the 2018 season.
That being said, the improved overall hours watched from week two of stage four last year comes with a dip in average viewership, for all coverage on the channel including re-runs. This year, the channel averaged 27K CCV across 141 hours of airtime, down from a 37K CCV average in 2018 across just 73 hours of airtime.
Vanishing Act
Tyler “Ninja” Blevins’ exodus from Twitch for an exclusive partnership with Microsoft’s streaming platform Mixer has left potential ramifications for the more established gaming platform.
While many viewers went to Mixer this weekend to watch Blevins’ debut on the newer platform, the most-watched Fortnite streamer so far this year, Turner “Tfue” Tenney, also saw in influx in viewership.
Much of Tenney’s 2.3M hours watched this week came following Blevins’ announcement. From August 1-4 Tenney’s streams averaged between 41-57K CCV. Additionally, Tenney’s stream following the Blevins announcement on August 1 was his most-watched of the week with the highest average and peak viewership figures.
