Pokémon is getting another live-action adaptation. This time the folks over at Netflix are stepping in to create a new series, which will be one of the many video game TV series to sit on the platform.
When is the release date for the Pokémon live-action series?
The project itself was revealed on 26 July 2021 by Variety, and still looks to be in the very early stages. It’s therefore hard to predict when the Pokémon live-action series will release.
It’s also worth noting that all series with Netflix move forward. For example, Nintendo put the brakes on a Legend of Zelda series. There will likely be more news about the release date in the coming months.
What is the plot of the Pokémon live-action Netflix show?
Not much is known about the plot of the new Pokémon series, just that it will be live-action, similar to the style seen in Detective Pikachu.
There are numerous plot threads that this show could explore. It could be a straight adaptation of the classic anime, following Ash and his companions through the journey of Kanto and the Pokémon league.
It could also be an adaptation of one of the games stories – one candidate is the upcoming RPG, Pokémon Legends: Arceus. This is an unexplored environment and era for Pokémon, and would be very interesting to dive into with a full series.
The series could also tie in directly to Detective Pikachu, set in the same world where humans and Pokémon live alongside one another (we can only hope for the return of Ryan Reynolds).
Alternatively, it could be a completely brand-new story we’ve not seen before. This is of course all speculation – we’ll add in rumours when we hear them
Who are the cast and crew of the Pokémon Netflix show?
According to sources at Variety, Joe Henderson is attached to write and executive produce the series. Henderson currently works on the Netflix show Lucifer as a co-showrunner and executive producer, which will be airing its sixth and final season next year. He is also working on an adaptation of a comic called Shadecraft.
No other cast or crew have yet been confirmed. Once we know more, we’ll update this article.
