The Fall aired back in 2013, but since landing on Netflix and dominating the top spot on its homepage, it’s the TV show everyone is talking about.
The series follows detective superintendent Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) who leads a task force on a mission to capture the ‘Belfast Strangler’, a serial killer who we know as Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan).
All three seasons of The Fall had viewers totally gripped, so fans will be excited to know that, according to series creator Allan Cubitt, there may well be a fourth season in the pipeline. Exciting!
After the third season hit our screens in 2016, Cubitt said in an interview with Digital Spy that another season was a very real possibility, but that in order for it to happen, it wouldn’t be straight away. And, well, over four years isn’t exactly straight away.
In news that shattered hearts across the nation, Cubitt also revealed that Jamie Dornan wouldn’t be in a new season.
“I don’t think I’m giving much away in saying it’s Jamie’s last season,” he said in the interview. “But that’s not to say that we wouldn’t do more of The Fall.”
Saying that, at the time, there was “probably been a little bit of confusion”, Cubitt did seem to have some ideas for a fourth season brewing. “I do have some thoughts,” he said of a possible future series. “But I’m quite keen on doing other things as well, so it’s not going to be straight away.”
We’re seriously hoping that the past few years have given him plenty of time to focus on ‘other things’ (although we’re not sure what could be more important than a new series of The Fall tbh) and that DSI Stella Gibson and her remarkable collection of silk shirts will be gracing our screens very soon.
