Everton fall to late defeat, Watford remain winless and Sheffield United earn point at West Ham

Marco Silva’s woes continue at Everton

An injury-time own goal from Lucas Digne saw Everton fall to a late defeat despite having led Brighton twice at the Amex Stadium.

The hosts took the lead after 15 minutes when Pascal Gross arrowed a powerful free kick into the top corner, leaving Jordan Pickford with no chance.

But Marco Silva’s side were level five minutes later as Richarlison slammed a header past Mat Ryan from a corner.

Everton had the better chances and continued to threaten until substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin restored his side’s lead with a cool finish with 15 minutes remaining.

Brighton struck back, though, controversially winning a penalty after a long VAR check. Michael Keane was deemed to have fouled Aaron Connolly in the box and Neal Maupay converted from the spot.

And Graham Potter’s side found a winner with seconds remaining as Digne inadvertently guided a cross into his own net.

Impressive Blades earn point at West Ham

Sheffield United’s strong start to the season continued as they left the London Stadium with a deserved point.

West Ham went in front late in the first half when Robert Snodgrass fired a low shot past Dean Henderson.

But the visitors, fresh off the back of a 1-0 victory over Arsenal on Monday night, responded after the break. Lys Mousset made it two goals in two with a side-footed volley, placed expertly into the far corner.

West Ham could have won it late on when Snodgrass, stretching to meet a Pablo Fornals cross at the far post, saw his effort cannon off the post.

But there was no late winner and the points were shared. Newly promoted Sheffield United now sit seventh.

Still no win for Watford

Watford remain winless and rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table after labouring to a goalless draw against Bournemouth.

The home side had chances to score in the second half, Will Hughes testing goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who had already made an impressive save to deny Gerard Deulofeu.

It was very nearly Bournemouth who left with the points, though, as Harry Wilson skimmed a low free kick against the post.
