Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Milner, Keita, Fabinho, Henderson, Minamino, Firmino, Mane

EVERTON 0-0 LIVERPOOL

68: More action on the Liverpool bench. No Salah. Georginio Wijnaldum and Divock Origi replace Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino.

I think we all know how much Origi loves playing against Everton. Five goals in seven derbies for the Belgian international.

65: You knew it wouldn’t before Mike Dean did something rash. The referee awards a free-kick to Liverpool after Lucas Digne makes an inch-perfect tackle on Sadio Mane. Bizarre because he was only a matter of feet away.

Trent’s free-kick is deflected for a corner, which is subsequently cleared.

63: Wasted. At both ends. Virgil Van Dijk doesn’t connect with a corner before Richarlison races clear up the other end. The Brazilian is wide but can’t angle the shot on target.

60: Carlo Ancelotti will need to make a change soon. Liverpool are completely and uttering bossing this fixture. Everton can’t get out, keep possession and are continually pumping it long for Virgil Van Dijk to casually deal with. It really is defence vs attack.

The Italian heeds my advice and brings Gylfi Sigurdsson on for Anthony Gordon, who struggled to make an impression on his Premier League debut.

58: I don’t know what’s happened to dear old Martin Tyler. “Here’s Coleman… but who will be the goal man,” he says to stunned silence from Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.

55: Everton continue to try and play out from the back. 30 seconds later it’s at the feet of Alisson.

53: The lack of supporters is more evident here than any game I’ve watched since the resumption. There’s just not enough intensity for a Merseyside derby. It doesn’t feel right. Anyway, Naby Keita plays a neat one-two with Roberto Firmino before flashing a volley wide.

50: Now that would have been a story. Virgil Van Dijk plays a lovely ball down the channel for the overlapping Joe Gomez. He looks to dart inside but Seamus Coleman is there to prod it out for a corner, which Jordan Pickford punches away.

48: Moise Kean, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Leighton Baines the Everton players warming up at the moment.

45: Well… fingers crossed this is better.

Everton certainly need to improve if they’re to get anything out of today’s game. The hosts have been very cautious and dare I say nervous to apply any real pressure. Liverpool’s bench could well prove decisive with Mohamed Salah and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain waiting in the wings.

In fact, the Ox is on. Takumi Minamino makes way.

HT: It’s the familiar story of the Premier League restart. Goalless at the break. Liverpool have been on top since the 10th-minute as Everton struggle to carve out any chances.

45: Two minutes of added time. Carlo Ancelotti needs the break as Liverpool continue to pile on the pressure. Mason Holgate makes an excellent block to deny Takumi Minamino.

44: Liverpool are forced into a change as James Milner hits the deck injured. He looks to have hurt his… right hamstring? I think that’s where he pointed. Joe Gomez on at right back.

43: That pretty-much sums up the evening. Trent Alexander-Arnold looks for a quick free-kick and thumps it straight out of play. Booked! Michael Keane is the next in Mike Dean’s notebook for absolutely hacking down Sadio Mane. He’d been beaten all ends up.

Perhaps Trent can make amends with this set-piece… nope. Comfortable save for Jordan Pickford.

40: A neat move down the right involving Seamus Coleman and Alex Iwobi leads to Anthony Gordon flicking the centre into the path of Richarlison, but his shot is blocked.

38: OK, even Martin Tyler is bored. He’s spent the last 30 seconds asking Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher what they’d received for Farther’s Day. He followed that by saying that he’d received some very nice phone calls en-route to Merseyside.

On the pitch, Andre Gomes takes an eternity to make a pass and Takumi Minamino robs him. It’s played inside to Roberto Firmino, who plants a long-ranger wide.

35: Close! Richarlison glances a free-kick just over the crossbar. Ah.. he was offside anyway. As you were.

33: I think I may have been too generous in describing this one. It was NOT been a cracker by any stretch of the imagination. Just the one chance for both sides… actually, make that two as Joel Matip heads wide from a free-kick. Probably should have done better with that.

30: Commentator Gary Neville lets out his first ‘oooooh’ of the day as Tom Davies goes in late on Sadio Mane. Referee Mike Dean says play-on and the winger quickly gets back to his feet. Touch cookie.

27: Well I think you would have to say that Alex Iwobi is looking a little rusty. The right winger is almost playing as a secondary right-back and hasn’t been able to support many attacks for the hosts. Jurgen Klopp issues his orders during the drinks break and we’re back underway.

25: Just signs that Liverpool are turning the screw over these last 10 minutes or so. Everton have dropped a little deeper and are reverting to playing longer passes up to the isolated Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

I make that time for a drinks break.

22: Booked! The bearded Mike Dean issues his first yellow card of the afternoon. It goes to James Milner, who cleaned out Richarlison after the Everton star side-stepped his way past a couple. I don’t think he fancied the foot-race with the Brazilian.

19: A short attacking spell led by Richarlison ends with Lucas Digne skewing his cross over Alisson’s crossbar. Liverpool respond by Jordan Pickford arrives to pluck Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross out of the sky.

16: Liverpool growing in confidence and are seeing more of the ball. They’ve not managed to create anything to worry the Everton back line though.

Since Jurgen Klopp became Liverpool’s manager, Everton have failed to score in all three Premier League Merseyside derbies at Goodison Park.

13: Richarlison and Fabinho collide just outside the penalty area and referee Mike Dean awards the free-kick to Liverpool. Trent Alexander-Arnold decides to clip it in to the middle but the angle is wrong.

10: Cracking tempo in this opening 10 minutes. Sadio Mane, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino have all been warned for sliding challenges and fouls. No shirking a tackle from this bunch. Liverpool haven’t clicked into their normal rhythm just yet – but Takumi Minamino has taken advantage of a sloppy pass from Anthony Gordon to fire wide.

8: Can’t help but feel that Everton’s decision to play it out from the back will cause a few issues. There’s no long clearances and that’s already invited a bit of pressure from the visitors.

5: Everton playing with an extremely narrow midfield and they’ve seen virtually all possession in the opening stages. They nearly make it county as Richarlison takes on Fabinho and flashes one inches wide. Early warning shot for the hosts.

3: Only just realised Mike Dean is in charge this evening. So… if the game is terrible I’d assume that big Mike will intervene. GOOD LORD! He’s got a beard!

2: I think Carlo Ancelotti’s lost some weight you know. Not that he was a big lad but he’s certainly looking trim. We’ll also ignore Martin Tyler’s ‘Carlo vs Kloppo’ joke before KO. It was simply painful. On the field, Anthony Gordon has actually started on the left of Everton’s midfield. I’d assume that’s to help deal with the engine of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

EVERTON 0-0 LIVERPOOL

1: After a minute’s silence followed by players and officials taking the knee, xx get us underway.

It’s absolutely tipping it down at Goodison Park tonight. Perfect slippery conditions for a heated Merseyside derby. Oh… and a rainbow has just appeared. Make of that what you will.

Evening…

Hello everyone, sorry that I’ve arrived late but that Aston Villa vs Chelsea fixture wasn’t going to update itself.

Better late than never they always say.

Anyway, we’re around 15 minutes away from the 236th Merseyside derby and this one will be a peculiar affair.

No roaring crowd dishing out support and criticism in equal measure. This one is behind closed doors with less than 300 staff and media watching on.

The starting XI’s have already been announced and you’ll probably have seen there’s plenty of surprises involved.

Takumi Minamino starts ahead of Mohamed Salah, who’s only fit enough for the bench. There’s also a start for 19-year-old Everton graduate Anthony Gordon on the right wing.

Should be a really interesting one.

You don’t need me to hype this one.

It’s a simply huge 236th Merseyside derby that could potentially inch Liverpool closer to their first league title since 1990.

Our coverage for this one will start after the conclusion of Chelsea’s visit to Aston Villa but I will provide team news and line-ups the second they are announced.
