Eurovision 2020: Italian hopefuls disqualified after they storm off stage mid-performance at San Remo festival

Eurovision hopefuls Bugo & Morgan have been disqualified after storming off the stage at the San Remo music festival.

The duo were competing alongside 24 other finalists with the hope to represent Italy at the annual international song competition.

However, things took a turn for the worse when Morgan changed up the lyrics at the last minute and seemingly threw all the shade at his duetting partner.

To the music of their track, Sincero, he called his buddy out on his alleged ‘ingrattitude, arrogance, and bad intention,’ as well as telling him to ‘respect the stage and the person who brought him there.’

And as the words flowed from his mouth, the live orchestra stopped playing, seeing Bugo leave the stage in a huff.

Unsure of what to do, Morgan shouted for him to come back and finish their song before chasing after him.

Later that night, the festival took to Twitter where they announced the pair had been disqualified for competing for a place on the iconic show.

By regulation,’ they started: ‘Bugo and Morgan are disqualified from the San Remo Festival.’

But despite the kerfuffle, the event went on and Rita Pavone was called to the stage to present her song.

While fans are wondering who will represent Italy, their minds have been put at ease with the most recent Eurovision announcement seeing Eden Alene chosen for Israel.

The 19-year-old beat out the competition on Israel’s national selection The Next Star to be chosen to represent her country in Rotterdam this May.

The teenager was up against Ellalee Lahav, Gaya Shaki and Orr Amrami Brockman on The Next Star, but managed to steal the hearts of viewers to nab the top prize.

The Next Star has been Israel’s selection process for a number of years and was how Netta and her winning song Toy was found – so Eden has some big shoes to fill.

Last year, the Song Contest took place in Tel Aviv after Netta’s win in 2018, but Kobi Marimi and his emotional ballad Home failed to make a dent, coming 23rd out of 26 places in the grand final.

Israel has won at Eurovision on four occasions – twice consecutively in the 70s, with Izhar Cohen and The Alphabeta and A-Ba-Ni-Bi (1978) and Milk and Honey’s Hallelujah (1979), in 1998 with Dana International and her song Diva, and in 2018 with Netta’s Toy.
