But it seems that she may be on her way to a hat trick after the latest episode of the show aired on Sunday night, prompting fans to take to social media and call for her to win another Emmy for her role.
Journalist William Goodman had already predicted a big reaction ahead of the latest installment, tweeting: “Tonight’s Euphoria will earn Zendaya another Emmy nomination (and likely) another Emmy win. Enjoy.”
It wasn’t long before Euphoria viewers added their own thoughts to the conversation – and it’s safe to say that we’re all expecting to see Zendaya’s name on the Emmy nominations list come July 12.
“Might as well start engraving Zendaya’s name onto that Emmy,” one fan tweeted, while another wrote: “Yo, this opening scene. Someone please give @Zendaya the Emmy NOW!”
Actor and author Marcellas Reynolds added: “I was so shook after this scene, I had to turn the TV off, go sit in the corner, and ponder my entire life. Give Zendaya that Emmy, an Oscar, a Tony, and a damn Grammy. Now.”
Without giving too much away, Euphoria‘s latest episode – entitled ‘Standing Still Like the Hummingbird’ – sees Zendaya give another powerful performance as Rue’s family and friends stage an intervention for her drug use.
Rue ends up in some brutal exchanges with her loved ones and goes on a manic hunt for drugs as she battles her withdrawal symptoms – with Zendaya exploring every element of pain, anger, shame and desperation.
Fans will have to wait a little while to find out if she’s secured another Emmy nomination, since the list won’t be announced until July – but the online entry process begins on February 10.
After her landmark win in 2021, Zendaya made sure to pay tribute to young people making a difference in the world. “I just want to say there is hope in the young people out there – I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that – but there is hope in our young people and I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, ‘I see you, I admire you, I thank you,'” she said.
Bring on Emmy number two, we say.
