ESL has added former managing director at T.E.A.M. Marketing Thomas Schmidt as the esports tournament organizer’s new chief commercial officer effective April 1.
The move comes following Schmidt joining ESL in October 2018 as a non-executive board member to assist the company in forming a “strategic angle,” according to a press release.

Financial terms of his employment were not disclosed in a statement, but his job title will make him responsible for managing ESL’s sales teams as well as expanding all of ESL’s brand partners and media distribution revenue streams.
Prior to working with ESL, Schmidt worked as T.E.A.M. Marketing’s managing director beginning in 2002. While there he was responsible for helping to commercialize and distribute the UEFA Champions League.
