ES Tests: Bond, Shoreditch’s newest hair salon

Tucked down Cheshire Street just off Brick Lane sits Bond, the newest hair salon addition to the Shoreditch scene.

The women’s only salon, which opened in the summer, has a team of just three. Founded by salon owner Ursula, who has over 20 years experience in the business, the vibe is chic and intimate.

General vibe

Stepping away from the hustle and bustle of the East End after a long post-work commute, my mood was instantly lifted arriving at the salon thanks to its warm lighting and the friendly smiling welcome I received from Ursula and her team, who immediately handed me the cocktail list to peruse.

The salon offers fun premixed cocktails in a can which are served in fancy glasses. I recommend the blood orange, which made for a refreshing change from my usual glass of wine.

Bond has a relaxed feel to it but given the small size of the salon you’ll get lots of special attention, and each treatment is highly tailored to your needs.

Décor

The colour palette of the salon is very stylish, navy blues and blacks contrast with different shades of pink, and all is set against a stripped back wooden floor, making it very ‘grammable. The cool lighting design gives the salon a warm glow and with its large windows looking out onto the street, this will make for a very cosy space come winter.

Experience

Having stopped by previously for a patch test and colour consultation, Sarah was fully briefed on what I was after, a cool bright blonde to banish some mousey dark blonde that was creeping in, and she worked tirelessly to pack in my highlights – this was possibly the most thorough half head I’ve had (and I’ve had many).

Bond uses vegan and cruelty-free products from cult haircare line R+Co, and once it was time to wash out my foils with the Television shampoo and conditioner, salon assistant Ines led me downstairs to the washbasins. The salon has invested in special massage beds which you can lie on to fully switch off and relax while enjoying the incredible head massage she gives, no awkward head positions here. This was followed by a toner, to get the ashy hue I was after and an Olaplex treatment to help rebuild my overprocessed tresses.

I was only after a trim so, next, Ursula gave me a perfectly blunt cut to thicken up the look of my fine hair, using the Waterfall moisture and shine lotion prior to blow drying but avoiding any other products as my hair was a little fragile having just been coloured. The end-result was a clean icy blonde and a head of hair that felt so much thicker than when I’d arrived.

Overall rating

10/10 I left the salon feeling incredibly pampered and with a colour and cut that will see me for a good three months. The friendliness of the team has left me wanting to go back soon.
