Erling Haaland was not thrown out of a nightclub because he was drunk, but because the Borussia Dortmund star was too popular.

A video of the 19-year-old footballer emerged on Sunday appearing to show Haaland being bundled out of a nightclub by a bouncer in his native Norway.

Reports circulated that Haaland had set off a party popper inside the venue, but the nightclub’s head of security, Christopher Naesheim, has now rubbished those claims.

‘Erling was not drunk,’ he told Bild.

‘He was cooperative and showed complete understanding of the situation after having a conversation outside.

‘Because of the current Covid-19 regulations, security personnel were aware of the crowd around Erling Braut Haaland.

‘They knew that fans would not stop crowding around him, asking for photos and talking to him.

‘In the end, the pressure became so great that we had to ask him to go.’

Haaland’s father Alfe-Inge teased his son on social media after seeing the video, telling the striker: ‘Come on Erling, back to work. Big city nightlife is not for you.’

With the Bundesliga season completed, Haaland has been spending time in Norway with his family.

Haaland enjoyed a superb start to life at Dortmund following a January switch from RB Salzburg, scoring 16 times in just 18 appearances.

The frontman turned down a move to Manchester United to join Dortmund, but the Red Devils continue to track his progress.

Haaland’s father Alfe-Inge is a former footballer who played for Leeds and Manchester City and is believed to have pushed for his son to join Dortmund where he was guaranteed playing time.
