GRAEME SOUNESS believes Christian Eriksen is “perfect” for Liverpool but insists Spurs would NEVER sell to rivals.
And, in his Sunday Times column, Souness wrote about how the great Dane’s qualities were suited to the Scot’s former club.
He said: “In Christian Eriksen, Liverpool come up against a player today who would be perfect for them and improve any team anywhere at the moment.
“He’s the kind of player everybody would want right now, including England, who lack somebody like him. He’s not having his best scoring season by his high standards, but is always up there for assists.
“He’s just an all-round top player. There’s no weakness in his game. You might like a touch more aggression, but with the qualities he has you would overlook that.”
Tottenham have famously sold to rivals in the past, with Kyle Walker strengthening Man City in 2017 and Dimitar Berbatov helping Man United to the title in 2008/09.
Yet, Souness cannot see Spurs and notoriously tough chairman Daniel Levy giving in to Liverpool – or any other Premier League club.
‘HE’D GO ABROAD’
Souness added: “With a year remaining on his contract this summer, Tottenham will look at the £142m Liverpool got from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho in January 2018 and want more because Eriksen’s a better player, who contributes a great deal more.
“If he leaves, he will go abroad, as Gareth Bale and Luka Modric did before him, because Tottenham wouldn’t want to sell to another English club.”
Eriksen’s focus for the moment is in retaining Tottenham’s place in the Prem top four.
He is part of Mauricio Pochettino’s side looking to maintain a two point lead over fourth-place Man United at Merseyside today.
