Eric Garcia: Manchester City want £30m for Spanish defender

Garcia made his first-team debut for City in December 2018

Manchester City want £30m for 19-year-old defender Eric Garcia, who has been linked with a move to Barcelona.

City manager Pep Guardiola revealed on Thursday that Garcia has told the Blues he did not want to sign an extension to his contract, which has one year to go.

But City are prepared to keep the Spainard for the final year of his contract unless they receive a suitable offer.

“He has told us he does not want to extend,” said Guardiola.

“I would imagine he wants to play in another place.”

Garcia ended the last league campaign as the first-choice partner for Aymeric Laporte in central defence.

The club’s stance was the same they took with Leroy Sane earlier this summer. Sane eventually left for Bayern Munich for a total fee of £54.8m.

City view the fee as realistic despite Garcia’s relative lack of experience. They acknowledge any buying club would want to include significant incentive bonuses that would likely move the fee towards £30m.

The club believe Garcia could still be talked round and may yet start Friday’s Champions League last-16 tie with Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium.
