Eric Dier sends warning to Manchester United ahead of Jose Mourinho return

Eric Dier has warned Manchester United Jose Mourinho is preparing for a ‘massive’ game’ ahead of his Old Trafford return.

Spurs continued their 100% start to life under their new manager following a 3-2 home win over Bournemouth which moved them to within six points of the top four.

Dele Alli was on target for the third match running, scoring either side of half time, before Moussa Sissoko looked to have made the points save with an acrobatic volley midway through the second period.

Two superb Harry Wilson goals, however, set up a tense finish but Spurs clung on to record their third win in as many matches under Mauricio Pochettino’s successor.

Mourinho will now prepare his troops for a trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday, nearly 12 months on from his acrimonious departure.

‘We are doing well, three wins in a row and we’re happy were we are. I have been feeling good for a while and I am very happy to have played in recent games,’ Dier, who has been one of the main beneficiaries of Mourinho’s appointment, told the BBC.

‘We are disappointed in the way we are finishing off these games, we need to do better in that area at 3-0 we should have finished off the game.

‘Next one (Manchester United away) is a massive game for us and also for the manager coming back to his old club and it’s always a great place to go: we had some good results there and hopefully we can have another one.’

Despite an encouraging start to his reign, Mourinho is refusing to look at the table as a measure of the progress which has been made in such a short period of time.

‘When I arrived we were 12 points behind the Champions League last position,’ said Mourinho.

‘I said I didn’t want to think about it. We were eight or nine from a Europa League position. If we think about it you get depressed, not playing European football next season.

‘So don’t think about it. Now we are closer and we have match, match, match for the Christmas period. We have a lot to improve on and we need to keep working.’
