The captain then picked out Grealish, and the No7 ran at West Ham’s Coufal and managed to get to the byline.
Grealish then clipped the ball towards the far post and Sterling headed England into an early lead.
The Czech Republic are a resilient team and they immediately went in search of an equaliser.
Soucek went closest for the visitors as the ball fell to him inside the penalty area.
But the West Ham men sent a shot whistling agonisingly wide of the post.
England lead at the break, but in the second half they’ll want to score more to put the game to bed.
