England player ratings vs Iceland: Phil Foden sparkles as Jack Grealish impresses again

Manchester City’s Phil Foden was England’s standout player after their 4-0 victory over Iceland at Wembley. The Three Lions capped off their Nations League campaign with a comfortable win over the visitors, thanks to goals from Mason Mount, Declan Rice, and a brace from Foden.

The match marks England’s final competitive game before next summer’s European Championship, and Gareth Southgate would have been delighted with how his side performed, albeit against weakened opponents, who were reduced to 10 men in the second half.

Here is how the England players rated…

England player ratings vs Iceland – Nations League

Jordan Pickford – 6

Not a great deal to do and the jury will remain out on him until March. But no bricks dropped.

Kyle Walker – 6

Silly early booking raised discipline issues again but never looked in too much trouble at the back.

Eric Dier – 6

Still prone to the occasional ill-judged pass but helped provide a solid platform for England to attack from.

Harry Maguire – 7

Been a good international week for him as he has grown in confidence. Even got involved going forward.

Kieran Trippier – 7

His delivery from wide always gave an easy second option. He is one of England’s most dependable players.

Mason Mount – 7

Took his goal coolly and simply and generally made a nuisance of himself around the box.

Declan Rice – 8

Delighted – if a little surprised, it seemed – to open his international account. Mature performance

Phil Foden – 9

Perfect delivery for opening goal and added two himself late on. Just mind how you celebrate, Phil!

Bukayo Saka – 6

With little or no defensive duties he seemed a little reticent to commit himself to the attack. Nerves?

Harry Kane – 7

Hasn’t scored for England for over a year now and did everything to end the run to no avail.

Jack Grealish – 8

Provided that spark which always threatened to break the Iceland defence. Drifted in from wide to good effect.

Substitutions

Tyrone Mings (for Walker 64) 6

Harry Winks (for Mount 64) 6

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (for Trippier 85)
