England player ratings vs Czech Republic: Kane the main man as two stars get fours in loss

The Czech Republic made England wait to confirm their place at the Euro 2020 finals as they ran out 2-1 winners over the Three Lions in Prague.

Jakub Brabec’s close-range finish from a ninth-minute corner came just moments after Harry Kane had put England ahead from the penalty spot.

As England failed to perform to their potential, they were made to pay when Czech debutant Zdenek Ondrasek bagged an 85th-minute winner.

Express Sport is on hand to run the rule over Gareth Southgate’s men following the disappointing 2-1 defeat at the Sinobo Stadium.

England player ratings

Jordan Pickford – 6 – Three excellent flying saves but too many long punts upfield giving away easy possession.

Kieran Trippier – 6 – The pick of England’s defenders, strong in the tackle and improved by his move to Atletico Madrid.

Michael Keane – 4 – Out of his depth at international level, passing wayward again and lucky to be selected.

Harry Maguire – 5 – Embarrassed a couple of times by the smart Czech strikers and too cautious in possession.

Danny Rose – 5 – Booked early in the game for a poor foul and far below his vibrant best.

Jordan Henderson – 5 – Too static in the centre of midfield and unwilling to take risks on the ball when sorely needed.

Declan Rice – 4 – Another disappointing game, sluggish on the ball and outpaced by Czech midfield runners.

Mason Mount – 6 – Starved of possession on his full debut, and looked uncertain of his role in the first half 4-2-3-1 system.

Jadon Sancho – 5 – Bags of enthusiasm, but some poor first touches as the game mostly passed him by.

Harry Kane – 7 – Confident penalty and some neat touches on the few times team-mates could find him.

Raheem Sterling – 6 – Clever play to win the penalty, but horribly isolated and ineffective on left flank before break.

England subs

Marcus Rashford – 5 – Came on for Sancho after 73 minutes and was barely allowed a touch of the ball.

Ross Barkley – 7 – Subbed on for Chelsea team-mate Mount alongside Rashford and made an instant impact from the bench, adding dynamism and superior passing.

Tammy Abraham – 6 – Replaced Rice in the 88th minute and had no chance to impress as a last-gasp sub, but now officially an England player.

Czech Republic player ratings

Tomas Vaclik – 6, Vladimir Coufal – 6, Ondrej Celustka – 6, Jakub Brabec – 7, Jan Boril – 7, Tomas Soucek – 6, Alex Kral – 7, Lukas Masopust – 6 (Jaromir Zmrhal – 5), Vladimir Darida – 7, Jakub Jankto – 7 (Jan Kopic – 6), Patrik Schick – 7 (Zdenek Ondrasek – 7)
