England hero Ben Stokes declares himself a Tottenham fan after Spurs send him personalised shirt

England hero Ben Stokes has declared himself a Tottenham fan – after Spurs sent him his own personalised shirt.

Mirror columnist Stokes cracked an unbeaten 135 to rescue England from the brink of Ashes despair to lead a remarkable turnaround in the third Test at Headingley.

Victory for the hosts tied the series at 1-1 with two matches to play at Old Trafford and at the Oval.

Footage circulated of Stokes watching Spurs fans celebrating his winning cut for four prior to their defeat by Newcastle on Sunday.

And, having declared that he was on the lookout for a football team to support, Tottenham have not missed the opportunity to seal his allegiance.

Stokes tweeted a picture of the shirt, with his name and ’55’ on the back – the number he wears for England, and wrote: “Never supported a club, always wanted to but never loved football enough really.

“My first ever football top was actually a Tottenham one, it was the blue and yellow kit with Thomson on the front.

“But after getting sent this I guess I’m now officially a Spurs fan.”

Stokes could hardly wish for a better first match as a fully-fledged Tottenham fan as they travel to the Emirates to take on north London rivals Arsenal on Sunday.
