England legend Michael Vaughan and Pakistan hero Ramiz Raja have slammed Shakib Al Hasan after the Bangladesh all-rounder received a two-year corruption ban.

Shakib, 32, accepted three ICC charges for ‘failing to report corrupt approaches’ which came during an international tri-series involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe last year and the 2018 IPL.

The star all-rounder has made over 300 appearances for Bangladesh and was the third-highest run-scorer at the 2019 Cricket World Cup after hitting two centuries and five fifties in eight innings.

Shakib, who says he is ‘extremely sad’ despite accepting the suspension, will be able to return to the sport next October as one year of the ban is suspended.

Former England captain Vaughan said: ‘No sympathy whatsoever for Shakib. None whatsoever.

‘In this era the players get briefed all the time about what they can & cant do and what that have to report straight away. Two years isn’t enough, should have been longer.’

Former Pakistan star Raja, meanwhile, criticised Shakib and said his ban is a ‘lesson for all sports lovers and sportsmen’.

He posted on Twitter: ‘So Shakib’s ban has a lesson for all sports lovers and sportsmen: if you disregard the game and try to become bigger than the game by sidetracking the laid rules and protocols then be ready for a fantastic fall! Sad.’

Shakib has been replaced as Bangladesh Test captain by Mominul Haque and as T20 skipper by Mahmudullah.
