Emmerdale star Samantha Giles was horrified to find a schoolboy outside her house who had been beaten up by other young men.

The actress, who plays Bernice Blackstock in the ITV soap, shared the devastating details of the attack on Monday.

‘Very sad that at the beginning of #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek I am outside my front mopping up blood and feeding chocolate to a young man who’d been punched by lads from his school,’ she tweeted.

‘Luckily he had some good friends helping him.’

Later updating her concerned followers, Samantha revealed: ‘One of his friends dads took him to [A&E with a] broken nose he thought x.’

Her co-star Michelle Hardwick was disgusted by the incident and replied: ‘Makes me sick to my stomach. Hope he’s ok.’

Liam Fox, who also works on Emmerdale, said: ‘That’s awful San. Hope he’s ok.’

Praising Samantha for stepping in to help the young man, one follower commented: ‘That’s awful, your [sic] a good person helping him Samantha . It’s surprising how many people don’t want to get involved when something like this happens.’

Another said: ‘Aww I bet you’re such a comfort to him. I hope he isn’t too hurt and it gets sorted.’

Samantha, 49, is set to return to Emmerdale after previously playing the character on and off between 1998 and 2019.

Announcing her return, the TV star said last month: ‘As an actress leaving a role that you love is always a hard decision and I’d been lucky to work so consistently for so long which is rare in our business, so I knew the time had come to be brave and take the leap back in 2019 to pursue my other passion of writing and focus on getting my first book published.’

She continued: ‘I’m a big believer in fate so when ‘Emmerdale’ offered me the chance to return as Bernice I took it as a sign that it was meant to be.

‘I’m delighted to be returning to play out Bernice’s future storylines which I’m sure are going to keep the audience entertained.

‘She certainly arrives back with a bang that’s all I’m allowed to say right now and I’m looking forward to releasing my next two books whilst juggling her hectic onscreen life!’
