Emmerdale’s Robert Sugden finally tells husband Aaron he faces life in prison for attacking his sister’s rapist

AARON Dingle will be left utterly broken in Emmerdale next week as his husband, Robert Sugden, finally confesses he’s looking at a life stretch behind bars for his attack on rapist Lee Posner.
Robert’s hand is forced when Cain Dingle – Aaron’s uncle – overhears him talking to his solicitor.

Cain is unimpressed and tells Robert – who’s played by departing star Ryan Hawley in the ITV soap – he won’t lie to Aaron about his possible prison sentence.
Later, Robert is frozen in horror when Aaron’s half-sister, Liv Flaherty, has a seizure in the café.
While Paddy Kirk, Cain and Marlon rush to help her, Robert is rooted to the spot.
At the hospital, Robert comes clean to a stressed Aaron – Danny Miller – and tells him that he could go to prison for life.

Devastated, Aaron struggles to process what Robert has revealed and ends up shouting at him, angry and heartbroken.
Will Robert be able to share his news with Liv and sister Victoria? And how will they react when he does?
Robert hit Lee – who raped Victoria in harrowing scenes earlier this year – over the back of the with a shovel after the vile thug threatened to rape again.
He taunted Robert after getting a £10,000 down payment so he would convince his mother that the baby wasn’t his and she wouldn’t contact Victoria again.

Lee leered: “Sometimes no doesn’t mean, does it? It just adds to it. I mean, is it really rape when they love it as much as your sister did? And I even gave her a nice souvenir to remember me by. Bye Uncle Robert.”

Following him Robert attacked Lee for his comments and the pair had a scrap and a blazing row.
Lee then said: “Come on, your sister fought harder than this.”
Robert knocked Lee to the ground and feared he’d killed him, but the rapist came round in hospital and told police the attack was unprovoked.

Rob’s solicitor informed him Lee’s version of events meant he was looking at a charge of GBH with intent.

Robert didn’t seem phased initially, failing to realise the charge is much more severe than GBH alone.
“How long are we talking?” he asked.
His solicitor replied: “The maximum sentence for GBH with Intent is life imprisonment.”

Robert then went on to lie to Aaron who thought his true love was looking at 12 months behind bars.
