Emmerdale fans livid as beloved soap is cancelled in schedule shake-up

Emmerdale is set to be taken off air during the week starting September 9, due to football coverage of the 16th UEFA European Championship.

Emmerdale cast members will lose their usual Tuesday slot to make way for live coverage of England’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Kosovo from 7pm on Tuesday, September 10.

Show bosses have not yet revealed whether fans will get more episodes to make up for the cancelled shows.

For the last four months the programme has aired a whopping seven episodes per week.

Fans are not happy with the news, as one posted on social media: “Get Emmerdale on instead, I hate football.”

Another added: “This is a travesty.”

Meanwhile, England will also play Bulgaria in another Euro 2020 qualifier on the Saturday but as there are no soaps on the weekend the match will not affect any of the shows.

However, it could cause a dilemma for Strictly Come Dancing fans as the game and the launch of the dancing show will clash.

Series 17 of Strictly Come Dancing begins on Saturday, September 7 on BBC.
