Emma Roberts ended up blocking her own mum on Instagram, after she accidentally confirmed the star’s pregnancy without her consent.

The Scream Queens actress, 29, is expecting her first child with boyfriend Garrett Hedlund, with reports first surfacing of her pregnancy in June.

Emma didn’t confirm news she is expecting until two months later when she shared a series of pictures of herself and her baby bump with Garrett and told fans she was expecting a baby boy.

But, before she took her news public, her mother Kelly Cunningham had already confirmed the news on Instagram by responding to fans.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Emma revealed that she had every plan of keeping her pregnancy ‘low-key’, but that plan was thwarted by her mum thanking all of her fans for their baby wishes.

She said: ‘I was keeping my pregnancy pretty low key, but unfortunately my mother has Instagram – which mothers and Instagram, it’s a bad combination… she definitely spilled the beans.’

Emma teased that buying her mum Kelly an iPhone may have just been the ‘worst thing I ever did’, as she revealed how her mum let the cat out of the bag when it came to her baby news.

‘It led to [her] interacting with my fans and just thanking them for all their pregnancy wishes. It was a disaster and I found it all out on a plane, so I couldn’t get to her,’ she said, before joking: ‘I couldn’t call her or attack her.’

Emma explained that her mum had thought she’d already announced her pregnancy news after seeing a tabloid report and ‘didn’t realise’ the news hadn’t come from Emma herself.

‘We kind of laughed, we kind of got into a fight, I blocked her at one point,’ Emma teased, as she said: ‘It’s a good story to tell the baby.’

Emma and boyfriend Garrett have been linked since 2019, with sources telling Us Weekly at the time: ‘Garrett and Emma have been friends, but this is new, casual, and just a couple of weeks old.’

The couple got together shortly after the actress – who is the niece of Hollywood star Julia Roberts – split from her ex of seven years Evan Peters.

Emma and Evan began dating in 2012, after meeting on set of Adult World, and the couple got engaged two years later in January 2014.

Sharing news that the couple are now set to become parents, Emma posted snaps of her holding her baby bump while cuddled up to Garret to her Instagram page in August.

She revealed that the couple are expecting a baby boy, as she added the caption: ‘Me…and my two favourite guys 💙💙.’

Fans were thrilled to see the rare post of Emma and Garrett, who usually tend to keep their romance pretty private, and inundated the couple with messages of congratulations.
