Emma Raducanu has announced she will play at the Rothesay Classic in Birmingham next month.

Her appearance at the British grass court event will be the first time she has played in front of her home fans since winning the US Open last year.

The 19-year-old burst onto the scene at Wimbledon last summer after being given a wildcard following her WTA debut at the Nottingham Open.

Speaking about her entry into the Rothesay Classic, she said: ‘I can’t wait to play in Britain again and I’m delighted to be competing at the Rothesay Classic in Birmingham in the 40th year of this terrific showcase for women’s tennis.

‘It will be great to get back on to the grass at home, where the backing of the British fans was so fantastic.’

Tickets for the event in Birmingham will be quickly snapped up with Raducanu now a world star since her emergence on the tennis circuit.

After winning in New York last September, the Brit has signed sponsorship deals with a number of big-name brands including Porsche and British Airways.

However, she has struggled to maintain her form, with injuries and fitness issues arising from the demands of the tour.

Last month, the teenager split with her coach Torben Beltz and has been operating with help from the Lawn Tennis Association throughout the clay-court season so far.

Speaking this week at the Italian Open, she labelled herself a ‘loner’ as she prepares for the French Open at the end of this month.

She said: ‘I’d describe myself as a loner. I do like being on my own, but of course I love being in groups as well. I can easily and very happily spend a lot of time on my own. I think it’s something that is off court as well as on court.

‘For the past year I’d say I’ve had a lot of people around me a lot and very often. To be kind of on my own is interesting because I’m kind of finding out a lot about myself, understanding what I need and what I don’t need.’
