Eminem shocks Oscars guests with surprise performance of Lose Yourself

Eminem surprised Oscars viewers with a performance of his Academy Award winning hit Lose Yourself.

The rapper had not previously been announced as a performer at the 92nd annual Oscars ceremony.

After Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda took to the stage to introduce a montage of iconic musical moments from film history, a clip from Eminem’s film 8 Mile played before the star appeared to rap Lose Yourself.

Guests in the Dolby Theatre were visibly shocked by the unscheduled moment, with stars including Idina Menzel and Martin Scorsese captured on screen struggling to hide their surprise.

Some Twitter users even suggested that Scorsese, who was filmed with his eyes closed during the song, had somehow managed to fall asleep during the explosive moment.

Stars Anthony Ramos and Kelly Marie Tran appeared to enjoy the performance, with the Star Wars actress spotted rapping along.

The rapper eventually received a standing ovation from the crowd.

The track received the Best Original Song Oscar in 2003, but Eminem did not attend the ceremony at the time.

Alluding to his previous no-show in a tweet shared after the performance, the rapper wrote: “Look, if you had another shot, another opportunity… Thanks for having me @TheAcademy.

“Sorry it took me 18 years to get here.”
