Emilia Clarke: ‘I’m just going to say it’ Game of Thrones star speaks out on ending

The actress, 32, has played Daenerys Targaryen since the HBO fantasy drama series began in 2011. Joining Stephen Colbert, 54, on The Late Show earlier this month, Emilia Clarke spoke about how she had reacted when she first read the scrip for the conclusion to the long-running show. “I went for a very long walk the first time I read the final season,” she explained. “I read it and I couldn’t quite handle it. I walked out and it should have been raining!” the Game of Thrones star joked, adding: “Existential crisis!

“I just kind of walked around London for two hours going, ‘Ahh!’” she continued. “If you saw me, that’s what I was doing.”

When the host asked if it was frustrating not being able to discuss how the series ends, Emilia exclaimed: “Yeah, deeply!

“I can’t wait for this to be out!” she added, as the audience laughed.

“I’m just going to say it, I know it!|” she fretted. “At one point it’s just going to come out on live television.”

In a cheeky attempt to glean spoilers, Stephen asked: “Do you want to go drinking later?”

“For sure, yeah!” she joked. “Drinks are on you.”

Emilia also admitted she had spilled all about the end of Game of Thrones, telling her mother everything.

“I’ve got to be honest, I did [tell someone],” she said. “Not just my dog. I wasn’t supposed to. I told my mum.

“The good thing about telling my mum was that she’s a vault,” she continued. “Because she’s just done forgotten it.

“We were talking about it the other day and I was like, ‘You know…’ and she was like, ‘Do I?’

“I was like, ‘Yeah, because I told you. You kind of read one of the scenes!’”

The actress previously opened up on saying goodbye to her character after playing the Mother of Dragons for over 10 years.

“I cried like a baby on the last day,” she told the Daily Mail. “I felt completely lost.

“10 years is a long time. It’s like losing an actual limb.

“I was 22 — a child — when I first walked on the Game of Thrones set. I grew up with her.”

Game of Thrones season eight continues Sunday on HBO and Monday on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
