Elvis Presley: 'Who's this son of a b****?' Star's surprising response to Elton John

Elvis Presley welcomed daughter Lisa Marie Presley with Priscilla Presley back in 1968. Naturally, being raised by the King, Lisa Marie grew up a fan of his rock ’n’ roll music. Opening up on life as Elvis’ daughter in a newly unearthed interview from 2003, she recalled a surprising moment when she inadvertently introduced him to a new artist.

“One Christmas I asked for Elton John album,” she told Rolling Stone. “And my dad was sitting there when I opened them and was, ‘Who the hell is this son of a b***h?’ and walked out.

“And then he got some go the records — ‘Who is my daughter interested in besides me?’ — and I think he went to see him live, to check out who he was,” Lisa Marie added.

Of course, she was and still is greatly appreciative of her dad’s own music, telling the publication which songs she listens to most.

Asked if she still listens to Elvis’ records, Lisa Marie said: “I get in certain moods and I will. I’m more prone to the ‘70s stuff, because I was around then. They bring back more memories.”

“The sad ones I get into, the dark ones that weren’t particularly a hit on the radio,” she continued.

“Mary in the Morning, In the Ghetto, Just Pretend, Solitaire — those I love.”

Elsewhere, Lisa Marie has spoken about how her father wanted to get to know Elton’s music.

In a 2017 interview with Yahoo Music, she recalled the last Christmas she could remember at Graceland, saying: “[My dad] wanted to know who he was and why I was listening to him.

“It was so sad, because he turned into this big man with no eyes,” he told Oprah Winfrey in 1997. “They had sunk into the back of his head and it was pathetic.”

In the book Captain Fantastic by Tom Doyle, based on extensive interviews with Elton, the singer later claimed he had asked Elvis to sing Heartbreak Hotel at the concert that night, but the King had refused to change the setlist.

“Elton looked into the eyes of the King and felt there was ‘nothing there’,” the biographer wrote.

“It was someone who was in a complete drug haze giving nylon scarves away to these fans.”

Nonetheless, Elton described the moment as “Still, in a way, magical”.

Elvis died a year after Elton and his mother visited him and attended his concert that night after years of heavy drug use.

The cause of death was determined as a heart attack.

Lisa Marie was just nine-years-old when her father died.
