Elvis Presley: The Whitney Houston hit Linda Thompson wrote expressing her love for Elvis

Aside from dating Elvis Presley for four years and marrying Bruce Jenner before transitioning to Caitlyn, Linda Thompson also wed musician David Foster for a time. The couple famously wrote some hit songs from No Explanation in Pretty Woman to Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing in 1992’s The Bodyguard. Well, it turns out this Oscar-nominated hit saw its lyrics inspired by Linda’s incredible love for Elvis.

Linda Thompson has said in previous interviews how passionate her relationship with Elvis Presley was, while they dated from 1972-76.

And recently she reposted an Instagram story from the elvis_and_linda_gram page. They quoted her: “I never knew love like I’ve know it with you.”

While the fan page added: “Linda wrote the song I Have Nothing sung by Whitney Houston. Linda said many of the lyrics were inspired by her love for Elvis.”

Here are some of the intensely romantic lyrics Linda wrote for I Have Nothing, which can be listened to on Amazon Music here:

Share my life, take me for what I am
‘Cause I’ll never change all my colours for you
Take my love, I’ll never ask for too much
Just all that you are and everything that you do

I don’t really need to look very much further
I don’t wanna have to go where you don’t follow
I won’t hold it back again, this passion inside
Can’t run from myself
There’s nowhere to hide

Don’t make me close one more door
I don’t wanna hurt anymore
Stay in my arms if you dare
Or must I imagine you there
Don’t walk away from me…
I have nothing, nothing, nothing
If I don’t have you, you, you, you, you

Linda added: “I wanted to carve out my own position in life, write my own songs, carve out my own career, have my kids and my family and then write about my life and where he fit into it, which is, of course, the greatest love imaginable.”

Speaking at this year’s Elvis Festival in Tupelo, Mississippi where The King was born, she said: “I think first of all he would be proud of me.

“And how I have tried two conduct my life in a way that has always respected him and his memory.

“That’s first and foremost to me. I’m a fan as much as anybody else is a fan of Elvis Presley. Also, he was the love of my life. I adored him.”
