Elvis Presley had a vast ranged from country to soul and classical to jazz as well as gospel and rock ’n’ roll. The King is said to have owned over 2,000 singles and albums which helped to inspire and influence his own sound over the years. A new video shared by the official Graceland Instagram account gives a rare glimpse inside the TV room and shows some of the records he treasured.
The clip, which was shared with Graceland’s 945,000 followers, sees Angie from the archives team there talking through some of the albums.
“We are here in the TV room, AKA Elvis’ man cave, and I thought you guys might want to see some of the music that Elvis would listen to,” she says.
“Elvis really didn’t like listening to himself but he loved listening to other artists. So here’s an album collection that is from Elvis’ personal stash.
“We start of with Miss Dolly Parton,” she tells the camera, holding up A Country Girl Goes Home.

“It has such songs on it as You Gotta Be My Baby, Tall Man; it’s an amazing album.
“Actually, you know what’s on it?” she added. “One song that Elvis actually won two Grammys for and that’s How Great Thou Art.
“I can just imagine Elvis loving to hear Dolly’s version of that song.
“And then we have the one and only Dean Martin,” she continues, lifting another record from the stack in front of her.
“You know that George sang with feelings,” she comments. “Everyone loved George Jones.
“Wonderful Words of Life, The Layman Singers. Again, Elvis was very inspired by inspirational music.
The pile of vinyl also includes records by the Lutheran Choir and Jack Jones.
“This one’s interesting,” Angie says, holding up another record. “Songs and Stories About the Civil War. It’s narrated by Ralph Bellamy.”
“The collection is just so vast…” she goes on. “Great Moments from the Grand Old Opry. There’s so much music in here, there’s something for everybody.
“This is what Elvis was inspired by and what he loved to listen to.”
Elvis died too soon at the age of 42 on August 16, 1977.
He was found unconscious on the floor of his bathroom by his then-fiancée Ginger Alden.
Despite attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis, later that day.
The cause of death was attributed to a cardiac arrest but it is widely believed his long history of drug use contributed to the cardiac incident which killed him.
