Elton John has been slammed by his half-brother for portraying their father as unsupportive in his memoir.

In his new autobiography, the Candle In The Wind singer writes that his dad Stanley Dwight had no interest in his music career and never saw him perform.

But Elton’s older half-brother Geoff argues that wasn’t the case and claims Stanley was actually ‘proud’ of the singer.

Speaking to The Mirror, Geoff said: ‘I don’t understand because my mum, my dad and me, we all went to see him as his guests in Liverpool.

‘That was definitely a concert, my dad was definitely there, he was definitely playing and we definitely watched it. I was five.’

The 53-year-old said of Elton: ‘Either he has got massive memory loss and he genuinely thinks his dad hasn’t seen him in concert or maybe he wants to believe that.’

‘My dad was proud of him, you could see when Elton popped up on TV, his eyes lit up.’

However, a rep for Elton, 72, doubled down on the singer’s claims in his book and said: ‘Elton stands by what he said in the book about his dad never seeing him perform.’

In his memoir Me: Elton John, the iconic musician said of his relationship with his late father: ‘I don’t recall [my father] ever coming to see me play live, or talking about music with him. What I was doing clearly wasn’t really his thing.’

Elton’s strained relationship with his father was also portrayed in the recent biopic Rocketman, which starred Taron Egerton, and showed how Dwight struggled to accept his son’s music career.

The Your Song crooner makes some startling revelations in his new memoir, including recalling a suicide attempt, cocaine binges and wild tales of partying with the likes of Princess Diana, Richard Gere and Sylvester Stallone.

He also describes his mother Sheila as a ‘sociopath’.

Me: Elton John is out on 15 October.
