Elton John has opened up on his friendship with George Michael, and claimed the late star was uncomfortable with his sexuality.

The Your Song hitmaker joined Sharon Osbourne on her show The Talk, where he expressed his feelings towards the singer’s tragic end.

While engrossed in a candid chat, the pair came to the conclusion that George no longer wanted to live.

The 72-year-old told the former X Factor judge: ‘He couldn’t get it, George, and he resented the fact that I had hinted that maybe he change his life a little bit and he’d be happier if he tried something else.

‘The person has actually got to want it. It’s like me in the end; I really wanted it.’

He explained: ‘I had two alternatives: one, to die, and one to live, and I wanted to live. But that’s the difference, if you want it, and poor George didn’t want it.’

Opening up about the time he found out the Wham! frontman had passed away, Elton spoke of both Sharon and her husband Ozzy Osbourne’s reaction.

The icon continued: ‘I remember talking to you the day he died on Christmas Day.

‘And I phoned you and I was in Aspen and Ozzy got on the phone and he said, “He didn’t want to be here.”

‘I thought that’s the most succinct apt thing, “he didn’t want to be here”.’

Talking about George’s sexuality, Elton added: ‘He was so uncomfortable in his skin about being gay even though he said he wasn’t.’

The Freedom hitmaker died on Christmas Day in 2016.

The coroner confirmed, three months after George’s passing, that there would be no inquest into his death and that the pop star died as a result of dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver.

However, one of the pop star’s close friends and manager, Andrew Ridgeley, has recently said he still has questions surrounding the tragic passing.

In his new autobiography, he claimed George ‘seemed to be in good health at the time and there are conflicting reports surrounding that night that preceded his passing’.
