Ellen DeGeneres and Wendy Williams are returning to their regularly scheduled TV shows … remotely.
“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” will be filmed from the comedian’s home with guest appearances, like other talk shows, via video chat. Jennifer Lopez, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are all scheduled to appear on episodes that will begin airing April 6.
“Since going into quarantine two weeks ago, I’ve been doing my show at home every day. But only for Portia,” DeGeneres said in a statement Friday, referring to her wife, actress Portia de Rossi. “Starting Monday, you’ll be able to see it too, and I can’t wait.”
“The Wendy Williams Show” is also expected to return to TV April 6 with new episodes from the talk show host’s home in New York City that will include her well known segments “Hot Topics,” “Ask Wendy” and celebrity interviews.
“I may not be in my purple chair, and it may not look the same but I’m very excited to get back to my Wendy Watchers,” Williams said in a statement. “There’s so much uncertainty in all of our worlds right now and we need each other!”
DeGeneres and Williams’ talk shows were among the long list of shows that suspended production due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Since production halted, DeGeneres has been filling her time (or quelling her boredom) by calling her celebrity friends to see what they were doing while self-isolating. One of those friends was Michelle Obama.
Obama, 56, opened up to DeGeneres about how she and former President Barack Obama, 58, and daughters Malia, 21, and Sasha, 18, are spending their time together at home. The key is sticking to their routine.
“We’re just trying to structure our days,” the former first lady said. “Everyone’s here – the girls are back since colleges are online, so they’re off in their respective rooms doing their online classes. I think Barack is – I don’t know where he is. He was on the phone on a conference call; I just got finished with a conference call … We’re just trying to keep a routine going, but we’ve also got a little Netflix and chilling happening.”
