‘Tis the season to re-watch your favourite Christmas-themed movies you already know all the lines to… And this year, you can watch three of them on the big screen!

Yes, three festive classics – Elf, Home Alone and Die Hard – are returning to (some) UK cinemas this December to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

Many Odeon locations across the country are screening Die Hard on 3 December, Elf on 7 December and Home Alone on the 14 December.

Meanwhile Cineworld is screening Elf on 4 December, and Vue’s dates for the movie range from 4 December to 15 December.

Home Alone, released in 1990, of course stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin, who must protect his home from two con men (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern).

It is the highest-grossing Christmas film of all time, bringing in a cool $447 million worldwide (£346 million). Its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, released in 1992, grossed $359 million (£277 million).

Meanwhile 2003’s Elf, starring Will Ferrell, follows Buddy, one of Santa’s elves as he goes in search of his father in New York City.

Die Hard, which stars Bruce Willis and was released in 1989, follows cop John McClane, as he tries to rescue his wife and child from a high rise building that’s been seized by terrorists.

Not exactly Christmassy – but the action does take place at Christmas!

If you fancy something more modern, you could also catch the Emma Thompson-penned Last Christmas, with music by the late pop icon George Michael.

Despite receiving a lukewarm reception from critics, the rom-com – starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding – has been a sizable hit since its release in mid-November.

But does it have what it takes to stand the test of time like Home Alone, Elf and Dire Hard? Only time will tell!
