Election seat battle: The 56 seats up for grabs as the incumbent MPs are standing down


John Bercow

John Bercow has been the Speaker in the House of Commons since 2009.

But after 10 years in the post, he is due to step down from his position as Speaker and MP for Buckingham.

He has become somewhat of a celebrity in his tenure as Speaker after his bellowing interventions delighted or appalled the masses.

His controversial decisions have divided opinions on him, with Mr Bercow even calling himself “marmite”.

Over his tenure since June 2016, Mr Bercow has been accused of being a Remainer.

The Conservative Party even announced its intention to break convention and run a candidate against him at the next election, before he announced his intention to stand down.

Sir Michael Fallon

Former Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon has been an MP since 1983.

He was the Conservative MP for Darlington from 1983 to 1992, and then was the MP for Sevenoaks from 1997.

Rory Stewart

Rory Stewart, the underdog of the Conservative leadership race and the MP for Penrith and the Border is stepping down from his MP spot, in the hopes of taking down Sadiq Khan and becoming the next Mayor for London.
