A new trailer for The Elder Scrolls Online’s current campaign at The Game Awards has also teased a return to Skyrim.

There was a lot to digest from The Game Awards, and not everyone was satisfied with the announcements. But The Elder Scrolls Online players certainly got something out of it.

While it wasn’t the main focus, ZeniMax Studios unveiled a new trailer for the MMO based on Bethesda’s fantasy franchise, which capped things off with a brief teaser that the region of Skyrim – the setting of The Elder Scrolls 5 – would be coming to the game, with what looks like lead character the Dovahkiin making an appearance.

The Elder Scrolls 5 is undoubtedly one of, if not the, most popular entry in the franchise and certainly the most recognisable, having been re-released so many times that it’s become something of a joke amongst the community. We certainly wouldn’t be surprised if it came to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

This isn’t the first time the MMO has revisited regions from past games, with the likes of Morrowind and Cyrodiil, from the third and fourth games respectively, already having been added.

As for when this Skyrim expansion will drop and what it will entail, that’s completely unknown, but ZeniMax intend to reveal more information in a livestream that’s dated for 16 January.

At the moment, though, the main priority is the current Season of the Dragon campaign, which began back in February and will soon be coming to a close.

The trailer that was shown during The Game Awards was pretty simple, showing a small party (which included major characters Khamira and Abnur Tharn) battle against a dragon.

The Elder Scrolls Online is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
